Dr. Hammad Ullah holds a PhD in Nutraceuticals from the University of Naples Federico II (Italy) and a Habilitation in Food Chemistry. He completed his postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Prof. Maria Daglia, where he advanced research on bioactive compounds and functional ingredients. His work spans the fundamental chemistry of food bioactives, preclinical and clinical evaluation of nutraceuticals, and the valorization of agri-food waste into high-value functional materials. Dr. Hammad has authored over 80 peer-reviewed publications, a book, and several book chapters. He has delivered keynote and invited lectures across Europe and Asia and received multiple international awards for his scientific contributions. His research integrates analytical chemistry, nutrition, and translational health sciences to develop evidence-based solutions for metabolic health and sustainable food innovation.

  • Fundamental science of bioactive compounds: Quantification of bioactive compounds in fruits and vegetables using advanced analytical techniques (e.g., LC-MS, HPLC), coupled with investigation of their molecular mechanisms, bioaccessibility, and bioavailability to inform the development of effective nutraceutical and functional food formulations.
  • Translational and applied research: Design and execution of preclinical and clinical studies evaluating the health effects of food bioactives, with a focus on their efficacy, safety, and potential as functional ingredients.
  • Food-waste valorization: Transformation of agri-food by-products into high-value biofunctional compounds, promoting environmental sustainability and contributing to a circular economy.
  • Clinical evaluation of food bioactive ingredients for sustainable health solutions.
  • Valorization of by-products of the agri-food industry concerning the courgette (Cucurbita pepo L.) supply chain through the development of ingredients for healthy foods.
  • In vitro studies on the efficacy of natural products used as food supplements ingredients.
